Your Quit Coach: A stop smoking companion

An AI powered stop smoking support tool, delivered through WhatsApp

From February 2025 a new AI-driven ‘Quit Coach’ will be available to smokers across Medway. The personalised coach is accessed via WhatsApp and has been co-designed with the Public Health (PH) team to offer guided and ad hoc support to people signing up.

Quit Coach is underpinned by trusted local and national PH guidance, and does not call out to the wider web. This is critical to Scott Elliott, Head of Health & Wellbeing Services, Medway Council: “Actually having control in terms of what the AI Quit Coach says to people is absolutely integral to us, in terms of safety, quality and our reputational and financial risk.”

With relevant scheduled structured guidance, as well as the ability for people to seek advice 24/7 - in any language - Quit Coach has the potential to reach a wide and diverse demographic. Critically all conversations, metrics and quit attempt data is captured in the underlying dashboards.

Quit Coach is ground breaking in its innovative approach and offers PH teams the chance to start to work with AI: “As a public health team we wanted to test the concept of AI with smokers. We are using funding from the Section 31 grant - as it gives us an opportunity to pilot AI - and we hope to get a good response, with a favourable cost per quitter.

Hear Scott Elliott, Head of Health and Wellbeing at Medway Council discuss this project with Simon Wilson, Founder at Bullet Solutions and how this could support people in their smoking journey across the UK.
