Affordable assistive technology to help children hear.

A Talk by Dr Tamsin Holland Brown (Paediatrician in NHS and co-clinical lead for NHS Clincial Entrepreneur Programme, NHS Clincial Entrepreneur Programme)

About this Talk

NHS doctor develops simple affordable hearing technology and app to support childhood hearing and development for one of the most common childhood conditions called ‘glue ear’ affecting 80% of children at least once. NHS waiting lists have grown, therefore the hearing device and app is an early intervention that families can try at home while waiting. This innovation has had a global application and has now been trialled in low income countries where a more affordable and remote solution is needed to support children’s education and access to speech, language and listening skills. This experience within innovation and digital solutions led Dr Tamsin to become an advocate for assistive technologies (becoming a member of the WHO World hearing forum), paediatric digital health (becoming a member of the Royal College of Paediatrician's digital health committee) and NHS entrepreneurship (clinical lead for NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme).
